William Pine Gables
Review
Remodeled in 2015, William Pine Gables successfully captures the essence of a traditional supper club while offering a clean, modern update. The interior features rustic log construction throughout—even in the booth seating and a beautiful fieldstone fireplace that adds warmth and character. The bar area is spacious, with seating for about 15 guests, making it a welcoming spot for pre-dinner drinks.
Ambiance
The ambiance delivers a cozy, Northwoods charm that feels both nostalgic and thoughtfully updated. It’s a comfortable and inviting space, perfect for a supper club experience.
Relish Tray, Salad, & Soup
There is no salad bar here, but don’t let that deter you. All salad dressings are made in-house, and we tried the French and blue cheese, which included crumbles—both excellent. The French onion soup was a standout: rich, flavorful, and satisfying. The house salad was fresh and well-composed.
Note: There is no relish tray, which is uncommon for traditional supper clubs, but the quality of the other starters helps make up for it.
Drinks
I had the Korbel Old-Fashioned (sweet), which was average for my taste. However, my husband thoroughly enjoyed his Manhattan and said it was one of the better ones he’s had recently.
Entrées
I went off the beaten path with Deb and Lon’s Rouladen; a delicious choice. The beef was tender, flavorful, and I completely cleaned my plate.
We also tried the Parmesan Panko Walleye, which was a generous portion of flaky fish with a crisp crust, served with tartar sauce. A solid choice for any seafood lover.
Service
Service was friendly, attentive, and engaging from start to finish. Staff made sure we felt welcome and well taken care of throughout the evening.
Tips
Reservations are highly recommended, as walk-in seating is limited and fills quickly, especially on weekends.
Final Thoughts
William Pine Gables offers a well-executed blend of supper club tradition and thoughtful modern touches. While it skips a few of the classic staples like a relish tray or salad bar, the homemade dressings, strong entrees, and excellent service make it a memorable dining experience worth repeating.
