White Stag Inn
Review
For an especially memorable experience, try to secure a seat by the indoor grill. Here, you’re treated not only to the delicious aromas wafting from the open kitchen but also the fascinating spectacle of your meal being expertly prepared right before your eyes. The interaction with the chef adds a personal touch that elevates the dining experience beyond the ordinary.
Ambiance
Stepping into this historic establishment feels like stepping back in time to a gracious era of classic supper clubs. The warm, inviting atmosphere immediately envelops you, with soft, dim lighting casting a cozy glow over the elegantly set tables draped in crisp white tablecloths. A charming, crackling fireplace often adds a comforting warmth and gentle flicker of light, creating a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of the modern world. The rich wooden bar, beautifully crafted and lined with an impressive array of bottles, serves as a focal point, its polished surface inviting guests to unwind with a well-crafted cocktail.
Relish Tray, Salad, & Soup
Each dinner includes a choice of a freshly prepared soup or salad, crafted daily with high-quality ingredients. While there’s no salad bar to peruse, the homemade dressings bring a distinctive, handcrafted flair that complements the greens perfectly. The simplicity and freshness of these starters set a satisfying tone for the meal ahead.
Drinks
The bar excels in classic cocktails, with the Korbel Old Fashioned standing out as a true highlight. Expertly muddled with cherries and fresh fruit, this cocktail strikes the ideal balance of sweetness and spirit, making it a perfect accompaniment to the rich flavors of the supper club fare.
Meal
Portion sizes here are generous—come hungry and prepared to savor every bite. The glazed pork chop, a center-cut piece grilled just inches away from your table, is a standout. More akin to a thick, juicy slice of ham than a typical pork chop, it boasts tender, flavorful meat with a subtle, delectable maple glaze that lingers on the palate. The ribeye steak, cooked medium rare to perfection and topped with sautéed onions and mushrooms, delivers a rich, savory experience that steak lovers will appreciate.
A unique and delightful aspect of dining here is the chance to engage with the chef as he works. Our evening was made all the more special by conversations shared with him, and I was even invited to choose the very pork chop be grilled for us—an interactive experience that deepened my appreciation of the meal.
Service
The staff are warm, friendly, and attentive, contributing to the welcoming atmosphere. However, given the care and attention to detail that goes into each dish, service can be a bit leisurely. Plan to linger at the table, savoring the food, drinks, and company—this is not a place for rushed meals but for savoring a relaxed, memorable evening.
