Turn Key Supper Club
Review
Turn Key Supper Club, a newly opened gem, offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a laid-back dining experience. The venue features comfortable booths and tables, providing plenty of seating options for guests. A unique touch is the cocktail menu, which can be found inside the Turn Key novels located at each table. It's a clever, quirky idea that adds a bit of fun to the experience.
Ambiance:
The atmosphere at Turn Key is relaxed and inviting, with a cozy vibe that's perfect for a casual meal or a drink. The inclusion of novels as a part of the cocktail menu gives it a distinctive touch, setting it apart from other supper clubs. It’s a charming and easygoing place where guests can enjoy their meal without feeling rushed.
Salad and Relish Tray:
Turn Key does not offer a salad bar or relish tray, but each dinner includes a salad, which is a nice inclusion for those looking for a light and fresh start to their meal. While the lack of a salad bar or relish tray might be noticed by some supper club enthusiasts, the included salad makes up for it.
Drinks:
For drinks, I decided to try the Birdy Squirrel Old Fashioned, made with Rye, Korbel, orange, cherry, and maple. The cocktail was flavorful, though a bit strong for my taste. Adding a splash of Sprite could help balance the flavors, but I appreciated the unique combination. It’s a fun variation of the classic Old Fashioned that adds a bit of sweetness and depth.
Meal:
We visited for brunch, which was an unusual but enjoyable choice for a supper club. Here’s what we tried:
Buttermilk Beignets with Raspberry and Lavender Custard Sauce: The beignets had great flavor, and the lavender custard sauce was absolutely delicious. It added a unique twist to the dish, making it a standout item.
Chicken and Biscuits: This dish featured a fried chicken cutlet atop a tarragon biscuit, topped with mushroom gravy, two eggs, and a touch of apple jam. The flavors were fantastic, particularly the tarragon biscuits and apple jam. However, the beignets and fried chicken cutlets were slightly overcooked, which detracted from the otherwise promising dish.
Service:
The service started off strong, with our waiter being attentive and friendly. Unfortunately, after the initial interaction, the service took a noticeable dip. We waited an hour for our food, and during that time, no one checked on our drinks or inquired about how our meal was progressing. This delay was disappointing and significantly impacted our overall experience, especially since the restaurant seemed less crowded at the time.
Final Thoughts:
Turn Key Supper Club offers a fresh and enjoyable take on the classic supper club experience. The atmosphere is inviting, and the food—while mostly delicious—could use a little refinement in terms of consistency. The creative cocktail menu and unique dishes like the beignets with lavender custard sauce and chicken and biscuits show promise. However, the service needs attention, as the long wait time and lack of follow-up on our meal were significant drawbacks. With a little improvement in service, Turn Key has the potential to be a favorite spot for locals.
